Class Summary: What better planet to explore than the one we live on! This course is all about the science of Earth. Students will explore the various layers of this planet while taking a special look at the outer most layer, also referred to as the crust. The students will examine three specific rock samples from this layer and learn all about their development and formation. In addition, students will be taught about other components of the layers of the Earth including the earthquakes and volcanoes.
Educational Value: Geology, the study of earth and all of its components, is perhaps one of the most fascinating subjects within the wonderful world of science. This class will introduce students to the wonders of planet Earth and the formation of its layers. Students will get to explore various topics such as earthquakes, the eruption of volcanoes and the formation of mountains. The children will also get to investigate metamorphic, sedimentary, and igneous rocks found within one of the Earth’s layers, as well as the concept of tectonic plates.
