Mad Machines

Class Summary: In regards to technology, the world is constantly updating as a means to make life easier. The invention of machines was perhaps one of the most important inventions of man. This is evident by how we use them to carry out various tasks in our everyday lives. This course teaches students all about the science behind machines. In this class students will explore the six main types of simple machines including the wheel and axle, the screw, the lever, the inclined plane, the wedge, and the pulley. Students may also get to participate in a demonstration of a pulley machine while working with their classmates.

Educational Value: This course introduces children to the basics of mechanics. They learn all about the various parts of certain machines as well as the force and capabilities of those machines. In addition, children are taught about the value that machines have in today’s society and the ease that they bring to everyday tasks. Towards the end of the course students will get to build their very own drag racing devise to take home with them.
