Science of Fear!

Oct 10, 2018 12:00 AM

Sweat starts to race down your forehead. Your body starts to shake; anticipation or nervousness? Your heart races at a much faster pace.

Fear is easily one of the most dominant emotions present in people. Fear can be a good emotion. However, irrational fears and phobias are the number one reason for so many people becoming afraid.

Fear can at times be a most undesired emotion to feel. However, it can at other times be fun as well; hence is why scary movies are so alluring to many of us.

So, in this article to celebrate the upcoming holiday Halloween, we have taken the liberty of explaining the science of fear and how you can use this to not only scare the pants off of your kids but also to make them have fun while doing so.

Here is the “Science of Fear”.

And don’t worry.

You don’t need to be afraid…

You need to be VERY AFRAID.

Very afraid at the outrageous levels of fun and excitement you will be able to offer to your little ones this Halloween.

What Is Fear (From A Biochemical Level)?

Fear is a feeling which happens when we feel threatened. The first thing and perhaps the most evident reaction we can visibly notice is that blood flow leaves the prefrontal lobe.

Now, I say evident, not so much in the sense that you see the blood flow but the reaction and action of people. The prefrontal lobe is where reason and logic occur. This is precisely why a person who is scared CANNOT be reasoned with.

That blood flow that leaves the prefrontal lobe then goes into the deeper recesses of our primitive and animalistic parts of the brain. This makes it difficult to rationalize what is actually happening.

There can be no reasoning with a person who is fearful.

Fear Can be Fun?

Yes, fear can be extremely fun. The reason that fear can be fun is that it gives you a sense of an adrenaline rush. For example, being on a rollercoaster is very scary, but the rush that you feel when you are on that ride is exhilarating.

When you can control a scary situation, it becomes less threatening and more exciting, and this is why Halloween parties are always fun. So here are a few Halloween party ideas we offer that you can have for your upcoming scary holiday.

Fun Scary Halloween Antics

Dove Pan - How many people are scared of spiders and bugs? Arachnophobia is not only a movie title but a real-life phobia that many people have. However, instead of bringing real-life spiders to your party why not have small toys instead.

Scary Tales Stories…In The Dark

There is something about the dark that instantly draws out the fear in all of us. However, to make this situation more frightening, be in the dark while telling ghost stories. If you really want to creep out your kids this Halloween, then this is a great way to do so.

And all without making a mess!
