Each day you'll be given a series of challenges which must be overcome using basic materials, simple machines, tips from the world of famous inventors, and the most important thing of all--your mind. With a little bit of ingenuity, you'll construct catapults and forts, egg protectors, a light up saber, and more!
Here's what parents have to say about our camps!
Both of our boys did Mad Science summer camps when they were younger, and loved the experience! It was a very fun and interactive experience for them. And counselor Beth Morrell is the best!!!
My son attended the Earth, Space & Beyond Mad Science Camp last summer and absolutely loved it! The hours were convenient for our family, and the location was close by for us. We're sending him again to a Mad Science camp this upcoming summer. These are well run camps, in our experience, and I recommend them for people looking for a fun, science-based camp experience.
Silver Spring, MD
My son participated in a true "camp" with horses, swimming, fishing and hiking and he was MORE excited about this camp than anything else he's done all summer. Great job on your end!
Can I sign my child up for more than one camp?
Yes, in fact, we encourage it. Each program is completely different, so your child can enjoy them all without repeating activities!+
Who are the Mad Science camp instructors?
Mad Science instructors tend to be college students pursing an education or science degree, former/retired teachers, or teachers on summer break. All of our instructors have experience working with large groups of elementary-aged children and have undergone an extensive background check.+
What is the child to instructor ratio?
The child to instructor ratio varies depending on enrollment. We have up to 20 children in a camp with one instructor and one assistant.+
Are different aged children in the same camp?
Yes. A few of our camps are divided by age, but, for the most part, they are not; we use a buddy system where, if required, the older children help the younger ones. Also, our low child to instructor ratio ensures that there is always plenty of help.+
Do you offer extended care?
Yes, at some of our camps. Pre and post care may be provided by our host locations. These locations are are indicated with an asterisk on our registration page. You will need to contact the partner-host location directly to secure arrangements for extended care.+
What is your refund policy?
If you register through us directly: There is a $25 drop fee if cancelled more than 30 days before camp. There is a $50 drop fee if cancelled 8-30 days before camp. No refunds are given less than 8 days before camp. If your child does not enjoy camp after attending the first day, you may withdraw before the start of the second camp day.+
What should my child bring/wear to camp?
Mad Science provides all the equipment and materials for both the in-class activities and the take home projects. All you need to provide is a child who is ready to have fun! Children should dress comfortably for that day's weather as we do some activities outside. We ask that children not wear open toed shoes. Water bottles are also recommended.+
Is this an outdoor camp?
Most of the camp day is spent inside. However, we will go outside to play games or do activities (like LAUNCH A ROCKET!). Our instructor do keep a close eye on the weather and will limit outdoor time when the temperature is high.+
